Hibi Kyodo Smelting began the process of applying for the Copper Mark in September 2024. After an assessment carried out by an independent third-party, it successfully received the accreditation. The Copper Mark is given to companies that have proven they meet 33 environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) criteria and are actively engaged in activities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
As outlined in Group’s 2025 Medium-Term Business Plan that begins with FY2025, the Group will ensure that it adopts Integrated Thinking-based Management, which aims to achieve the improvement of both social and financial value. Hibi Kyodo Smelting is also working to reduce the environmental footprint of its business activities and supply chain and promote respect for human rights, and actively strive to coexist in harmony with local communities. It received the Copper Mark because an objective assessment found that its efforts meet international standards. This is an important step for Tamano Smelter, which intends to continue to transform its responsible practices to become a truly sustainable copper smelter.
Separately, subsidiary zinc smelting companies have started the Zinc Mark application process. The Zinc Mark is an extension of the Copper Mark framework. Much like the Copper Mark, the accreditation is given to companies that have been proven to meet 33 criteria.
