Calculation of Carbon Footprint of Electrolytic Zinc and Reception of Third-Party Assurance

Mitsui Kinzoku Company, Limited (President:Seiji Ikenobu; “Mitsui Kinzoku”) announces that it has calculated the carbon footprint of products (CFP) produced by Kamioka Mining and Smelting Co., Ltd. (TANABE Nobutaka, President; hereinafter “Kamioka Mining and Smelting”), a Mitsui Kinzoku Group company. It has also obtained third-party assurance for the calculation results. CFPs are a metric of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the product life cycle.

The GHG emissions per ton of electrolytic zinc manufactured through the processes of Kamioka Mining and Smelting in fiscal year2024 were calculated, including the processes from the procurement of raw materials to the shipments of products (commonly referred to as cradle to gate), adapted from the ISO 14067:2018. Additionally, Mitsui Kinzoku asked DNV Business Assurance Japan K.K., a third-party assurance body, to verify its calculation process and calculation results, and limited assurance-level third-party assurance was obtained.

Like the Zinc Mark accreditation received in April 2026, Mitsui Kinzoku considers the reception of this assurance to be an important step for Kamioka Mining and Smelting to evolve into a sustainable zinc smelter. Mitsui Kinzoku’s metals business has a mission of providing solutions that help build a sustainable world. Mitsui Kinzoku believes that this initiative will lead to the provision of greater environmental value to customers.

In the future Mitsui Kinzoku, will apply this initiative for the other products of its zinc and lead smelters and continue to work towards gaining the appreciation of even more customers.

In accordance with Our Purpose, which states, “We promote the well-being of the world through a spirit of exploration and diverse technologies,” we will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by implementing its vision for 2030, “Building new businesses-and the future-with our material intelligence.”
