Mitsui Kinzoku Group (President: Seiji Ikenobu) today announced the “Mitsui Kinzoku Group Nature Positive Declaration,” in alignment with the International Day for Biological Diversity (May 22), recognizing the importance of balancing the conservation and restoration of natural capital with sustainable business growth.
Our Group has, over many years, contributed to the development of society through businesses such as mining, smelting, and manufacturing materials, all of which are deeply connected to natural capital. For our business, nature is not only something we strive to protect; it is also a critical foundation for our business activities. Precisely because of these business characteristics, we recognize that achieving “Nature Positive”—halting and reversing nature loss and putting nature on a path to recovery—is a critical management priority that supports the Mitsui Kinzoku Group’s long-term value creation and business resilience.
In recent years, international discussions and expectations regarding natural capital and biodiversity have intensified, as evidenced by the adoption of the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and the publication of recommendations by the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). In light of these international trends, this declaration demonstrates our commitment to working toward the realization of a nature-positive society, in tandem with our response to climate change, based on our Group’s Purpose and our Basic Environmental Policy.
Our Group has already endorsed the TNFD recommendations and registered as a TNFD Adopter, and guided by this declaration, will continue to strengthen initiatives related to natural capital and biodiversity and enhance the quality and breadth of our disclosures.
