Kamioka Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd. Receives The Zinc Mark

Mitsui Kinzoku Company, Limited (President: IKENOBU Seiji; hereinafter, “Mitsui Kinzoku”) announces that Kamioka Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd. (President: TANABE Nobutaka; hereinafter, “Kamioka Mining & Smelting”), a subsidiary of Mitsui Kinzoku, received The Zinc Mark accreditation on March 26, 2026.

The Zinc Mark is a framework led by the International Zinc Association (IZA), designed to certify responsible production in the zinc industry that meets environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) criteria. The framework was established in 2019 to demonstrate responsible production in the copper industry and its contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations, and it has now expanded into a certification program targeting complete copper, molybdenum, nickel, and zinc value chains.

Kamioka Mining & Smelting began the process of applying for The Zinc Mark in March 2025. After an assessment carried out by an independent third-party organization, it became the first zinc smelter in Japan to receive the accreditation. The Zinc Mark is given to companies that have proven they meet 33 environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) criteria and are actively engaged in activities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Going forward, Hachinohe Smelting Co., Ltd. (President: HACCHO Kazuya) and Hikoshima Smelting Co., Ltd. (President: KAWATANI Tetsuya), subsidiary zinc smelting companies, have started the Zinc Mark application process.

Mitsui Kinzoku will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by implementing its vision for 2030, “Building new businesses -and the future- with our material intelligence,” based on its purpose, “We promote the well-being of the world through a spirit of exploration and diverse technologies.”
